Title: Rethinking Stormwater in Our Neighborhoods
Dr. Hopkins’ presentation will take us on a journey that explores how rainwater moves through our neighborhoods. She will discuss how neighborhoods in Clarksburg, Maryland were designed to incorporate engineered and green stormwater infrastructure practices to minimize the impacts of development on local streams. Monitoring data reveal how the streams faired fifteen years after development. Stay tuned to learn about the ecological, hydrologic, and geomorphic changes that have taken place in these neighborhoods.
Dr. Krissy Hopkins is a research scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Raleigh, NC. Her research focuses on understanding the impacts of urbanization on rivers and streams and ways that green infrastructure can be used to minimize the impacts of urban and suburban development.
